Recommended   Timing   For   Site   Preparation   And   Plant   Establishment

Prior to starting the Timeline steps for year three, most of the site preparation tasks will have been completed during the previous two years. Tasks in year three, beginning with step thirteen, will include continued work on invasive vegetation control and the establishment of native forbs, sedges and rushes. Additional plant establishment tasks will include the introduction of native grasses.

Year Three

 Step thirteen:   Fall

Round Two Planting: Plant native grasses via no-till seed drill and additional forbs/sedges/rushes via broadcast seeder (See Section 5.0 – Plant Establishment in Practical Guidelines for Wetland Prairie Restoration for detail, link on left).

Step fourteen:   May-July

Evaluate Plant Community: Determine emerging invasive non-native vegetation and map locations to guide any necessary third year actions. Spot spray, manually remove, or mow as necessary to control remaining concentrations of invasive non-native vegetation.
